Livestock Market Update: Hybrid Livestreamed bidr® option helps underpin Rangatira Angus sales

More people ‘virtually’ at an on-farm sale adds value, making bidr® a logical choice.

Rangatira Angus Stud located on the East Coast of the North Island is run by Charlie and Susie Dowding and their family. Last year in September they held a Heifer Dispersal Sale, which due to covid-19 threatening problems for some people attending in person, was simultaneously offered online through bidr®. Their sale was such a success that they also used bidr® at their Mixed Age Cow, Heifer Calf and Bull Calf Dispersal Sale in March this year.

Their two year old bull sale, coming up on 30 June will follow the same formula. Charlie explains why:

“When you offer livestock for sale by auction you want as many buyers in the room as possible, having bidr® there with a full online system covered all bases. If they can’t make it, or have someone on the ground at the sale, they can still bid.

“At our sale in March around 30 animals sold through bidr®, and many more of the lots received online bids.

“Having more people ‘virtually’ at the sale as well as attending our on farm sale makes the hybrid livestreamed bidr® option a logical one for us. Underbidders are so important: they set the price, which for us, on many of the lots, came from the livestream. When that happens, your virtual buyers help to support the sale.

“All the technical aspects worked smoothly. Adding the bidr® live stream to our on-farm sales has been a straightforward decision for us.”
